About the Book
There Are Such People: Poems and Stories from Ukraine That War Couldn’t Silence by Lilia Yermak Even in the deepest darkness, voices find a way to rise. There Are Such People is a moving collection of poetry and true stories from the heart of Ukraine, written and gathered during a time of war.
Combining the author’s original poems with firsthand accounts from civilians, defenders, volunteers, teachers, mothers, and children, this book bears witness to both the sorrow and strength of a people who refuse to be broken. From the hush of bomb shelters to the chaos of evacuations, from handmade meals for soldiers to moments of quiet faith, these pages hold grief, resilience, courage, and love.

Very beautiful poems in English and Ukrainian.
This is a beautiful book of poetry. If you have a friend from the Ukraine or if you speak the language you will appreciate that the author put both in the book. Some of the poems are tear inducing. Very beautiful.
Pure emotion
A friend recommended this to me, and I’m so thankful they did. This book holds so much emotion. It talks about quiet faith, deep sorrow, and incredible courage. The author’s writing style is gentle but it packs a big punch. It is just an honest, beautiful look at survival. It’s a book I will keep on my shelf forever.
"Not Just a Book — A Witness"
There Are Such People is less a book and more a chorus of voices you cannot unhear — mothers, soldiers, volunteers, children, and even abandoned pets, all speaking directly from the wreckage of war.
